The “Kids Standing Up Project” is an educational division of DCPutnam Consulting. Upon the publication of my book Sometimes Grandmama Doesn’t Know Me!, I knew I needed to develop this project so that I could distribute my books to as many people and organizations as possible in the dementia field.
I received a phone call from a stranger here in Murrysville, who had purchased my book through my website (www.grandmamadoesntknowme.com ). After several minutes of conversation, he indicated that his foundation wanted to provide funds to me for the distribution of my book. I was floored and overwhelmed with this kind and generous offer.
We met twice and talked about my background, professional experience, the book, what my goals and dreams were for distributing it. The foundation offered me a very generous grant, which completely floored me. My tears were tears of joy, thankfulness and disbelief!
As a result of this grant, I have a goal to distribute @500 soft copies and @500 digital copies of my book to numerous target populations locally and nationally. During the first stage of distribution, copies of the book have been distributed to all public libraries in Westmoreland County (PA) and every chapter/office of the Alzheimer’s Association in the United States, as well as family and professional caregivers. Copies have been available to all public libraries in Allegheny County (PA) as well. Other future target groups include primary care physicians, neurologists, hospital social workers, memory-care communities, clergy, etc.
If you are a family or professional caregiver please be in touch with me. If you represent an organization or corporation who would be interested in purchasing copies for your professional staff, please contact me. This book is a wonderful educational tool to help children understand Alzheimer’s and open the doors for families to talk about what they are observing and feeling as they live through this devastating disease.
After all, it is our younger generation who are going to be the ones to unlock the mysteries of Alzheimer’s disease and the related dementias… the cure… the treatments… the medications. The more they know and understand now, the more they will be prepared to tackle this daunting challenge.
