Clergy, seminarians and lay leaders have been invited during 2014-2015 to participate in a 3 hour Alzheimer’s/Dementia Awareness Training. The program is sponsored by the Episcopal Dioceses of Rhode Island and Western Massachusetts, through a grant from Province 1 of the Episcopal Church. The training has been an overview of Alzheimer’s disease, a clarification of the various types of dementia, risk factors, warning signs, effective communications skills and available resources. The goal is for clergy to be alert to signs that they are seeing in their parishioners and how they can assist and support them through the disease process in a caring, compassionate manner.
The training on this date is Stage 2 of this program and will an 8 hour training program for selected lay people who will assist their clergy in individual parishes, as well as be available to clergy and families throughout the dioceses who are struggling with Alzheimer’s or one of the related dementias. They will be part of the Alzheimer’s Support Team for both dioceses.
